Kaori White Rioja

Kaori (formerly Akemi) is a special white Rioja, crafted from old-vine Viura with a splash of Malvasia Bianca and Garnacha Blanca. It’s aged in second-use American oak barrels, which give it a lovely, rounded texture and a subtle depth. The balance is spot on with its lively acidity, making it refreshingly crisp, while tropical and stone fruits take the lead, complemented by a light mineral edge.

In the glass, Kaori shines a bright straw yellow and gives off aromas of ripe tropical fruits, soft grapefruit, and a touch of pepper and blossoms. The palate is full of texture and creamy fruit, backed by a refreshing mineral lift and a touch of vanilla on the finish. It’s an absolute winner alongside East Asian curries, sushi, sashimi, or any spicy noodle dish.

This wine was originally the result of a collaboration between Bodegas Ontañón and Michelin-starred chef Felix Jiménez, designed specifically to pair with his bold yet delicate fusion dishes and to go with sushi.  It was the only wine listed on his menu, pretty bold for a Michelin acclaimed restaurant.
