Sourced from a single high-altitude vineyard at 400 metres, “Il Santo” offers a more delicate and lifted expression of Mammolo. Here, clay and limestone soils combine with cooler conditions to shape a wine defined by elegance, purity, and subtle complexity.

Mammolo is one of Tuscany’s quieter natives—rarely seen on its own, but long valued as a blending partner, particularly alongside Sangiovese. Its name is thought to come from “mammola”, the Italian word for violet, a nod to the grape’s naturally floral character.  In the vineyard, it can be a little temperamental, which is one reason it’s less widely planted today. But in the right hands and the right site—like higher, cooler vineyards—it offers something distinctive.

In the glass, it shows a light ruby hue, almost translucent, hinting at its refined and graceful style. The nose is fresh and inviting, with bright red fruits leading into gentle balsamic notes and a touch of liquorice, adding a savoury edge.

On the palate, it’s vibrant and finely tuned. Freshness drives the wine, giving it a dynamic, energetic feel, while its lightness of texture allows the flavours to unfold with precision rather than weight. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, carrying through to a long, enveloping finish that lingers with quiet persistence.

Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, the approach is measured supporting the wine’s natural character without overwhelming its finesse. A beautifully poised Mammolo that speaks softly but with real clarity.
